Typhoon Bilge Pump

Post by Tom »

Do I need to add an automatic bilge pump to my Typhoon? If so, what is a convenient location? and where should I put the discharge. As I hate putting too many holes in the boat, is there any way it can be tied into the cockpit drains.

As always, thanks for any advice

Nope...If you find a lot of water in the bilge after a rain you should do some detective work and find where it is coming from. However in general Typhoon's with a self draining cockpit can be fixed to have the bilge stay totally dry or almost.
Most common problem spots are the seal around the tiller and the storage hatches in the seats. Older Ty's had more problems with the hatches but there are some good posts telling how to seal these.

We bought our TY last summer and we found a lot of water while she was on the trailer. Serge is correct, once on the water - no problems.

So if you have yet to put her in the water, wait until you do to check to see if she is still taking on water.

Good luck, you have a great boat! Sean
