Has anybody ever replaced the three motor mounts on a CD-33 with a Universal Diesel engine, Model 30 #5425, 1981, 3 cylinders, 24 hp? My boat is at the yard and the three motor mounts have exploded and broken apart. Would have been launching this coming Tuesday. URGENT reply really appreciated.

Re: REPLACING MOTOR MOUNTS for CD-33 Universal Diesel
Zeida,
I'm replacing a motor mount on My CD 30 MK II which has a Westerbeke 21 a. I've ordered the part from Hanson A large distributer here in the Northeast, they also handel Universal I think. Also check out the Westerbeke web site, www.westerbeke.com...You will find Universal engines listed there as well
Good Luck

Re: REPLACING MOTOR MOUNTS for CD-33 Universal Diesel
I've replaced the motor mounts on my CD 31 with the Universal Engine Model 25, three cylinder 21 horsepower. What's your question? The starboard forward mount has to go in the boat before the engine is set down, the other three mounts can be attached to the engine first and then lowered into place. This is because the engine blocks access to the bolts on that motor mount once it's set in place. At least that's the case on the model 25.

Yes. Ours is also a 33 with the same engine. I don't recall how much discussion there was but you may find good information in the archives.zeida cecilia-mendez wrote: Has anybody ever replaced the three motor mounts on a CD-33 with a Universal Diesel engine, Model 30 #5425, 1981, 3 cylinders, 24 hp?
If I remember right, I used something like a square post across the top of companionway hatch with support underneath the ends. I dropped a chain down to the eye on the engine and used a ratchet device to winch the engine up enough to slip the new mounts into position. The angle of pull is not straight, that complicates matters. There is not much distance for the ratchet device to work in. The weight of the engine is mostly on the two aft mounts and that doesn't help either.
Someone, an active contributor to this board, can't recall which, strongly recommended NOT using a jack on the engine pan. He cracked his pan, which is the top of the holding tank. I was able to do some prying from the engine mounting framework to help a bit but I definitely avoided the engine pan.
There is no room near the starboard mount but I found a short wrench and a crow's foot to help get at the adjusting nuts. The bolts holding the mounts to the frame are something else though. The angle of rise toward the stern doesn't leave much room for fingers or anything else to place, hold, and tighten the nuts and bolts.
I am smaller than most and that helped but it was hit and miss the whole time. It took a lot of persistence but it got there eventually.
