Perko seacocks

Post by Clay Stalker »

Hi folks-

Took apart and greased five Spartan seacocks on my CD27 this weekend...noticed that on the galley sink drain there is a Perko seacock...almost looks more like a ball-valve kinda thing than a Spartan. Does anyone have this arrangement? If so, how do you get the darned thing apart to lube it? Thanks!!

Clay,

On Second Chance the galley sink drains through a small Spartan barrel seacock. However, when the PO repowered her they installed a new Perko ball valve for the engine intake (they installed a new one because the intake was on the other side from the old engine intake). It is my understanding that these ball valves do not disassemble, however some waterproof grease can be smeared on the ball to lube it.

I'm not altogether comfortable with the ball valve in view of the admonitions posted here, but I keep inspecting it, and replacing it with a true seacock is kinda low on my list right now.
