I was driving across the Great South Bay Bridge this afternoon (South Shore of Long Island for those unacquainted) spanning my old sailing waters. As I looked out I spied, far in the distance, a lone sailboat making her way happily along. The entire Great South Bay was hers and hers alone. She was too far away for me to tell much about her, but she was flying a blue and red spinnaker. Perhaps my eyes were playing tricks on me but I swear I could read the printing on that spinnaker. It said " The Light At The End Of Winter's Long Tunnel". I'm sure that's what it said!! If I could have stopped on the bridge, I would have and then watched her sail for an hour. What an "upper" at this time of year. I immediately stopped by the pharmacy and stocked up on Advil. It won't be long now before I'll need it after a couple of days of bending my back and neck into pretzels to get at Sine Qua Non's seacocks, hose clamps and the like. I can't wait!

Traditionally, the seacocks are the first thing I do after taking the winter cover off. The last thing I do before taking the cover off is buy bandaids. <g>

Re: A Sight For Sore Eyes!
That sight must get your adrenaline going Warren. Two weeks ago, we went up to our boat, and surprisingly the lake was open around Bayfield. Usualy when we hear a power boater on the water, we actively try to ignore the disturbance..well this time I heard the whine of an inboard engine..and searched over towards LaPointe on Madelline Island..sure enough, in the distance was a 22 ft. something or other, moving along, throwing a big bow wave, happy to have been out on that sunny day in Feb., at least 2 months before normal ice-out. The sight was wonderful, and I enjoyed the sound even. Darn, does this mean I have to do penance??
