Update on Cape Dory Manufacture; More CD Specs

Post by Walt Bilofsky (CCDO) »

Folks -

The California Cape Dory Owners Assn. web site now contains an update (as of February 1997) to the current state of manufacture of boats from the old Cape Dory molds.

I've also added a brief history of the company, but I'd ** really ** like to get some more details and confirmation from people who know more about it - you know who you are. Please email me.

And specs for more Cape Dory models have been posted, thanks to Newton Page who sent me copies of a couple more brochures.

All this stuff can be viewed by going to top of the main Message Board page and clicking on "About Cape Dorys" on the navigation bar.

Anyone who has brochures of the Cape Dory line - we'd like to have copies for our files. So far we have the ones dated 1980, 1982, and 2/85.

Enjoy.

Walt,

I own a CD28 which I bought new in 1978. Am also a yacht broker in MD. I've got a fairly respectable CD brochure collection, but I am afraid I intend to hoard it as part of a large collection of brochures that will be used to support a forthcoming on-line database of sailboats.
If I can look anything up for you let me know.

By the way, I shopw 44 records in the database for Cape Dory sailboats - 10' to 45'. Does not include powerboats.

I'll send a copy of the 1987 and 1991 Cape Dory Fleet brochures to you. The 91 brochure covers most of the "Explorer" power Yachts inclusive of the 28, 33, 36, and 40. For sail the 91 brochure covers the 310 "Contemporary" by Clive Dent, the 300 Motorsailer by Dent, and the "Classic" Alberg designed 33, 36 and 40.

The 87 brochure shows the introduction of the 40' custom (redesign of the former 40)by Alberg and the 30 MkII by Dent. Also shown is the CD32 (Alberg)which replaced the older 31 (Alberg) (not the same as the 310(Dent) which was later built by Newport)

I recently purchased a CD31 built late 1983. Included in the orginal owner's archive of materials from roughly the time of his purchase are a "fleet brochure" and occasional copies of the manufacturer organized owners association newsletter of the time plus materials on the CD31. I would not like to part with the originals but could make copies available. For all interested, or those that have materials specific to the CD31 (reviews, broshures, manuals, advertisements etc), I would be interested in what's available and would provide a list of my holdings on request.

Hail to Spring on the Chesapeake Bay!
