Calling all NY, NJ, CT area CD owners
Is anyone interested in joining/forming a Cape Dory owners association in the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut area -- Raritan Bay and
the waters of New York Harbor and Long Island Sound?
I sail a CD32 (REALIZATION) out of Lockwood Boat Works marina in Morgan, NJ -- Cheesequake Creek. I mainly sail in
the waters of Raritan Bay and New York Harbor and I know there are many Cape Dorys in the area. Four are summer stored
at Lockwoods -- that's almost an association right there.
Please let me know if you're interested in rendez-vous, regattas, information sharing, etc.
Thanks,

Re: Calling all NY, NJ, CT area CD owners
Catherine,
Sounds like a good idea! I think there are probably a lot more Cape Dorys of all sizes in the Northeast U.S. than anywhere else in the world. The problem is that a lot of owners don't know that this web site exists. I only happened on it by chance!
Hanalei is a CD-30, cutter rigged, hailing from Noank, CT just South
of Mystic, CT. We bought her in April out of a field, 10 miles from the ocean in Seabrook, NH. She hadn't been in the water for at least two years, but she's in fine shape! She's proven to be a fine sailor and we're very happy with her. There's some great sailing up here from Block Island to Watch Hill, RI all the way to the Thimble Island westward along the North shore of Long Island Sound.
If an Eastern CD owner's association gathers nothing more than more information for all of us to share it would be a great asset. Keep us posted on this site. Thanks

Great idea! Let me know if we can be of any help.
A couple of suggestions:
1) There are 38 boats in NY/NJ/CT listed in the Cape Dory Registry (not all on the coast though) - sort it by state and check. You can email them.
2) If you just plan an event, and put out press releases to Soundings, the sailing magazines, and any local throwaways, you will probably get a fair number of inquiries. You need to do this several months in advance though. Be sure to plug your group as well as the event.
3) If you jump in and start it, it will grow. We had 3 boats at our first rendezvous.

Dave,
If you've got an e-mail address, and you don't mind, please send it to me. I'm trying to put an e-mail distribution list together of all of the potential NJ/NY/CT area Cape Dory owners for our would-be association.
Thanks,

Great idea. I volunteer to be the Hudson River subgroup coordinator. I would hate to suggest we create a web site as an organizational tool, because this site is so valuable. Perhaps we could start by asking the good folks here to give us a page on this site to get started.........

I have spent several weeks trying to locate one for sale. Last week I was entering a Cape Cod bay aboard my Ericson 32 when I noticed a CD330 with a "For Sale" sign on the bow. It must be fate. I have contacted the owner and have arranged to see her this weekend. The asking price is a bit high, but if we reach a mutually agreeable price, I may be a candidate for your organization. My home port is on the Hudson River with any port along the US East Coast acting as home for several weeks each summer. Please add my name to your list of potential members as my search for a CD330 will remain until I realize my dream.

Re: Calling all NY, NJ, CT area CD owners
Cathy,
I've expressed interested in joining a New England/North East/East Coast Cape Dory Association/Club to postings on this site. See 'north east club'(Steve Files) & 'Need East Coast Association'(Robert Davee.)
Suggested:
1.) Due to the volume of info through their web site, I think, with their permission, we could affiliate w/ the CCDO.
2.) As a testimony to the designer, I would like to suggest the 'Association' membership be open to owners of all C. Alberg designed boats.
Maybe the three groups could start a collective organization.
My boat, CD30K-1977, Hull No. 57, is located in New London, CT.
