CD36 Plans

Post by Steve Arian »

To all CD enthusiasts: Has anyone ever seen plans for a Cape Dory 36? Would love to get a copy of plans for something like my 1984 CD36, Zephyr. The basic problem is lack of stowage space in the area under the cabin sole. I would like to cut a couple of lockers in, but am unsure of just what is down there. Does anybody have plans? I'll be happy to pay costs, mail, etc. Let me know. Steve Arian

Steve,
I had the mast out a few years ago on my '36 and took a look at what I could see underneath through the hole in the cabin sole. The fuel tank takes up most of the space that you are interested in. There is a nice spot foreward of the fuel tank that I have had my eye on, but other jobs have always had priority. Unfortunately there is an athwartships beam under the floor just aft of the head, just where the two pieces of cabin sole join. You may be able to find the front of your fuel tank by measuring from the fuel tank access pannel. Please take picture of whatever you do and send me a copy! Be warned that the chain locker drains through this area and you can not block it off completely.

Matt, be cautious I own Hull # 36,1980, lived aboard for years and have examined other 36's. They are different!!! Small variations occurred constantly, mine has water tanks under the cabin sole where there is any space. Burr Brothers in Marion Ma. is where they launched the first ones for sea trials, they might still have some one around there that might help. They took excellent care of mine for more than 12 years, before I bought it. Good Luck.
