Can I use Cetol Marine on a teak bench?

I'm currently sanding the gray off a teak bench that has been
outside in the sun and rain. I would like to seal the bench with
something that will prevent it from turning gray again. I've read
about Cetol Marine in this bulletin board. Can I use it on my
bench? Will it change the color? Is it better than varnish?
How long will it last? Where can I get it? I've tried local paint
stores but they don't carry it. Also does anyone have any
suggestions on how to sand small detail areas (hummingbirds
and flowers)?

Janine: no reason i know of not to use Cetol on teak bench;works fine on teak boat trim. Holds up well for about nine months in California weather. Takes less care and easier to apply than varnish. My dockmate lovingly applied 8 coats varnish to well-sanded deck, only to have it start peeling before my Cetol began fading. You can buy at most marine stores...or through catalogues from West Marine and Boat USA. good luck. Marion

Just adding a bit of info to Marion's comments. If you do not have a Marine Store near you....

West Marine
1-800-538-0775 VISA, MC, DISC, AMX

STUFF IS CALLED "Silkkens Cetol Marine"
Stock Model #243933 in qt. "Clear Gloss"
Not inexpensive but worth it approx. $32 max price, about $24 when on sale. Would suggest 7 coats for full first year protection. Just add three more on next year. That way you will not have to clean or sand down to wood again.

The teak grey can be removed without sanding. Especially when it comes to those hummingbirds. You may wish to use a two part teak cleaner. Part A removes oil, dirt etc. if you need it. Part B removes the grey. Available from same West Marine in pints, quarts, or gallons for each. Model no. 276055 or 276063 for part A pt/qt. Model 408823 or 408880 for pt/qt of part B. Can not see you using the gallon. Cost is about $7-10 for each quart size.

Janine,
Careful use of a power washer will clean the grey off of your bench with very little effort. Don't put the nozzle right up to the wood as that can be a little too aggressive.
