BRONZE PORTLIGHTS-TYPHOON

Post by DON »

I OWN A 1973 TYPHOON - I WOULD LIKE TO PUT THE ROUND PORTLIGHTS
IN THAT SPARTAN MARINE SELLS BUT THEY ARE BIGGER THAN THE ORIGINALS.

DID THE NEWER TYPHOONS HAVE THESE PORTLIGHTS OR HAS ANYONE REPLACED
THE ORIGINALS WITH THE SPARTAN PORTLIGHTS???????

THANKS IN ADVANCE

DON

Don: I used the Sea Fit (ABI I think) bronze port holes. West Marine. No problems installing them. Pulled the old ones out, ran a round rasp file around 1/8" removed. Looks great. I think it was worthe the $$ E-mail me if you want photos

Dear Don,

In addition to making the various Cape Dory Builders Plates in Bronze we are also working on reproducing the original Typhoon Portlights in Bronze. Yes, these will be actual Bronze made in America not the brass ones made in Southeast Asia as sold by some of the marine super stores. The pattern has been made, the first lot has been cast and we will be machining them to size in the near future.

If you would like to get in on the portlights, builder's plates, or the outboard motor brackets that we make for the Typhoons I can be reached at 401-625-5224.

don,
i used the abi portlights. cost about 35 each. also used the interior trim rings which cost another 17 each. you do have to do a little enlarging of the original opening but it is not a big deal.
they really help to give the boat a better look and a real pick-me-up.
bristol bronze makes nice stuff so you may wish to wait on their new ones.
