Has anyone come across a reference that state the maximum
sailing speed of a Spanish galleon ? (also, if you know, the speed
of a vessel like the mayflower).
A colleague of mine is translating a spanish navigational treatise
written in 1587, and is trying to get a context in which to place what
they are saying.

A trip to the local library may be in order as well.
