Greetings from Down Under,
I have just pulled Daysprings mast ( Cd30 Cutter 1979 ) and rewired the mast...previously nothing up there worked at all. Not suprisingly when one looked at the quality of the installation. I ran a 7 core cable in one tough Lloyds approved cable run of 2.5mm section, and pulled out three cores at the spreader height..so from nothing, she now has a masthead strobe light, tricolor, anchor light and a spreader spotlight facing forard with a steaming light attached. Not really very noteworthy in the scheme of things but well worth doing and I can now relax in the knowledge that if something doesnt work up there, it is almost certainly due to a blown bulb and not to the terrible mess of dubious connections which I replaced.
I also replaced the halyards for main and headsail which brings me to the point of writing....what size do most CD30s use for these. I haveused 12mm braid which seems OK. Did these originally run back to the cockpit ? I plan to do so and instal some proper keyboard clutches to handle everything, when the pocket allows.
The summer is approaching in New Zealand now, and if only I wasnt so busy working ( in asia ) I would be going sailing...

Re: CD30 Mast Wiring
Murray,
I can't say some weren't fitted with 7/16 halyards, but ours (1984 cutter) has 3/8". I replaced them this summer when I also rewired the mast. Check the sheaves for fit, as well as the amount of room above the sheaves in the mast head fitting. The CD manual available on this site also shows 3/8" as the halyard size. Sheets are 7/16".
