Just finished my 3 coats of Cetol and now have residue from the blue painting tape. How can I get it off without damaging the deck. Also, I've read about some of you using a gloss top coat Cetol. Should I put this right over my 3 base coats for a shinier finish? Thanks.

Use Naptha. It is an adhesive solvent. You can purchase it at any hardware store, H. It will not harm your deck or your newly finished woodwork. Lighter fluid is the same thing as naptha, you just pay more because it says lighter fluid, same for products like goo gone and other marketed adhesive removers. Use a clean rag and flip it frequently.
Any remaining tape backing will loosen and seperate leaving just a thin layer of adhesive and that will come off with additional wipes of the naptha.
I don't use Cetol so maybe the users of that product can possibly comment on that situation for you.

I've found good old mineral spirits works, also if you left that tape on to long (all winter)just wet down the tape with MS wait 20 minutes and the tape comes right off.John R. wrote:Use Naptha.
