Delaware River
We are taking our CD 30 from the Chesapeake to above Philadelphia for winter storage this year..a first for us. Does anyone know of some places on the Delaware where we could wait out adverse tides and bad weather? We will probably leave Delaware City with a fair tide. Thanks for any help.
Re: Delaware River
There aren't many anchorages on that stretch of the Delaware, but even with an adverse tide you should be able to make it to Philadelphia in less than a day.
There's a rather nice (though not very well protected) anchorage off the public park at the south edge of New Castle, Delaware. A fleet of Flying Scots is moored there. There's no dock, but you can land a dinghy on the beach.
There is also Racoon Creek, just south of the Commodore Barry Bridge, on the New Jersey side. We've never entered there, but we believe that cruising sailboats can cross the bar at the mouth, at least at high tide.

Re: Delaware River
We have made this this trip several times. If you leave Chesapeake City with the tide you can make Riverside, NJ in a day.I know someone making the trip on the first weekend in Nov. If you are interested in hooking up with him, e-mail me.
