I'm buying ty weekender #365. The motor mount was lost and I'm seeking an alternative to spending $285 for the similar type (which I can only assume weighs alot), but I don't want to spoil the look of that pretty transom. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure which motor mount you are thinking of but the standard Bronze bracket that is used on the Typhoon does not mount on the transom. The standard bracket that we make has a small base plate that is permanently mounted on the after deck. The brcket itself drops into, rotates, and locks into the base plate. When not using the motor the whole thing is removeable. That way one of the nicer aspects of the boat is not runied by a motor. THERE IS NOTHING THAT IS MOUNTED ON THE TRANSOM. The weight of the bracket is about 15 pounds. I have used one for years on my boat and the weight is not a problem.
The very first bracket used by the earliest Typhoons was a small affair that was made in brass. It proved to be too light and started to deform after a few years use. The bracket that we now make is the standard one that was used on most boats. Our bracket is rated for up to a 10 Hp engine but we recommend the use of a 4 Hp on the Typhoon.
Right now we still have two in stock. We will not be casting any more until next Spring. As long as the cost of energy stays high the next batch will be more expensive that the ones that we have now.
