Tide Table with Slack Tide

Tide Table with Slack Tide
Does anyone know where I can routinely find or buy tide tables that include slack tides? I may be making a trip thru Hell's Gate on the East River of NYC and that's a place where you better know the tides before attempting it.
Thanks,

Re: Tide Table with Slack Tide
Warren,
I use a web site to get clues about tides before I set out. Of course, winds in the bays will change all that, so I don't put too much trust in them. For Hell's Gate currents try the link below. They can also provide tidal info.
Good sailing,
Ken

Re: Tides on Palm Handhelds
Funny you should ask. I cobbled together a program that predicts tides and currents on Palm handhelds computers. It covers Hell Gate (tide and current both) and 6,000 other locations around the world.
You can download it from my web site. If our ISP is still sluggish, you can also get it from <a href="http://networkone.pda.tucows.com/palm/p ... >Tucows. But check out my web page anyway - it lists dozens of uses for tide prediction, most of which I never would have thought of.
- Walt Bilofsky
P.S.: I take it you mean slack current, which is usually at a different time than high or low tide.

Thanks for the site reference. I already have it. Funny....Their list has many entries for Hell Gate which just show High and Low tides but not Slack water. I picked one of them without looking further down the list which shows a listing for "currents" at Hell Gate. I guess they put that "special" table in there because of the 4 knot current.
Thanks again,
Warren

Re: Tide Table with Slack Tide
Use Eldridge, it has Tide and Current tables and info as to when slack water will be and how long it will last. The time of current changes and tide changes are not necessarily the same time. Hell Gate has about 15 min of slack water if I remember correctly.

Re: Tides on Palm Handhelds
Walt's Palm program is REALLY nifty Almost worth buying a Palm Pilot just for it but there are other neat programs the denizens of this board have created especially Mario Curati's (I think I remember correctly) Yachtman.

Maptech "Chart Navigator" Tel # 978-972-1197 www.maptech.com for $49 is a good program that comes on a cd. you have to specify your area. the one i'm using covers Main to Nantucket. Has tide and current tables tied to your computers date and time. Has pictures of different harbors, topos, facilities at diff locations. Quite a program for $49. Also download or upload from gps (not in realtime) They have one for realtime, but is about $200.

Is this some top secret mission relating to next years challenge of #1 (everyone know who that is).
My ever plotting mind has not planned any clandestined voyage on the East River. Alas, the possible trip won't even be in a Cape Dory. My brother-in-law needs to move his Frances 26 cutter from the south shore of Long Island up to Manhasset Bay and to Port Washington on the North Shore of LI. I'll be relegated to crew status and I have been diligently practicing my "Aye Aye Cap'n" in front of a mirror. If the trip even takes place, it'll be at the end of the season in late October and we'll take the East River route. Hopefully by that time travel restrictions will be eased a bit.

Re: Tide Table with Slack Tide
Ditto the comments of Dennis.
Eldridge has all you need. There is a table of current changes at Hell Gate. Toward the back of the book there is a table that shows the duration of slack tide on either side of the current change. I think Dennis is right that at Hell Gate it's about 15 minutes.

Walt did much more than "cobble together" his Tides program. It's outstanding and I use it every time we sail.Don Sargeant wrote: Walt's Palm program is REALLY nifty Almost worth buying a Palm Pilot just for it but there are other neat programs the denizens of this board have created especially Mario Curati's (I think I remember correctly) Yachtman.

I guess I didn't remember so well..
Sorry, Mario, But both programs are winners.
