Has anyone had occasion to stumble across any polar charts (sailing performance charts) for a CD36? Having entered a Hospice Cup race in the near future I'm interested in upholding the Cape Dory reputation by sailing as well as the boat will allow. I don't have any illusions about beating everyone on corrected time but am more interested in looking good and sailing the boat to its potential. Thanks.

I USED TO RACE MY CAPE DORY IN SEVERAL CLUB RACES. BELIEVE IT OR NOT SHE DID QUITE WELL, ALL THINGS CONSIDERED. ALL I CAN TELL YOU IS THAT IN PHRF I RATED 172. MAKE SURE YOU USE A 150 GENOA. UNLESS IT'S BLOWING LIKE STINK, YOU WILL HAVE LITTLE TO NO USE FOR THE STAYSAIL. ACTUALLY I DISCONNECTED THE INNER FORESTAY VIA THE QUICK RELEASE AND SAILED HER AS A SLOOP. THIS MAKES TACKING MUCH EASIER. ALSO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A WHISKER POLE...SHE DOES NICELY WITH IT DOWNWIND.
YOU CANNOT STAND UP TO MANY BOATS, POINTING UPWIND...YOU WILL MAKE UP THAT WEAKNESS ON THE REACHES.
GOOD LUCK,

Try US Sailing. They list polars for the 33 & 36. Check the assumptions; I beleive you can only match the numbers with a fairly fresh set of racing optimised sails. Link follows.
Good luck. Make us proud.
