Typhoon motor mount.

I have a Typhoon (1973) with a stock motor mount. I'm looking for a new outboard, but not sure what shaft length would be suitable for the height of the transom. The current mount is bronze with a wood mount and swings up, and is about at deck level. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
