My husband and I already own a CD 33 but I am looking at buying a Typhoon while he sails his mini 12-metre. This is hull 955, 1975, and appears to be in okay condition, if not somewhat neglected. The deck APPEARS okay, but seems to be slightly higher at the shroud chain plates but is equal on both sides. Is this normal? Is there anything in particular I should look at with respect to this boat? Thanks for ANY info you can give.

Re: advice request re 1975 Typhoon
Shouldn't be any noticeable difference there. Had #704 and now have #1700 and neither showed deck deviations at chain plate area. There is an inspecton/service access cover below which may shed some light. The known trouble areas are usually deck in front of cabin if someone installed a poorly sealed vent; cockpit sole that can crack from flexing and take in water; and the cabin roof if it is a weekender at the mast step if shrouds were overtightened.
Good things are if there is added reinforcement for mast step in form of a compression post or added beam above; no extra through hulls besides the two cockpit drains; carefully bedded fittings if any additional cleats, grab handles, etc. My personal preferences is that it be without a bow pulpit (or any other railing). I feel the boat is too small and such things hinder boarding, docking etc.
There shouldn't be any significant water in the bilge. The seal around the base of the rudder post in the cockpit is an area that can let water into the interior of the boat so that is one easy thing that should be looked at just for future preventive maintenance.
