Finding a good marine electrician

Post by Warren Kaplan »

I'm strongly considering gutting the electrical system on Sine Qua Non (CD27, 1980) when she's laid up for the winter, or at least in early spring. She need a new and somewhat larger distribution panel and frankly, after looking at the wiring into that existing panel, if there's a weakness that Cape Dory had, its the electrical wiring. Simply impermissible!! I know I could probably do the job myself, but frankly I don't believe I'll have the time and the "joint flexibility" to do this. Also, I have no driving ambition to do this project myself. So, I need to find a qualified marine electrician on Long Island up in the Oyster Bay area. I suppose I could ask some of the mechanics, but for all I know they may just give me the phone number of their brother-in-law, "the electrician". So, my question to you is this. If you wanted to get your boat rewired, etc., what sources would you use to find a GOOD marine electrician?

Thanks,
Warren Kaplan
