WITH WIND 7 TO 12 KNOTF ,1 1/2 TO 2 1/2 FT. CHOP ON MOBILE BAY MY SPEED TOPS OUT AT 4.8 KNOTS .SHOULD THE BOAT SAIL FASTER ?

CD25D SPEED ON THE WIND

Re: CD25D SPEED ON THE WIND
I also have a 25D and I get at least another knot out of her in similar conditions. You might want to check a couple of things.
1. Is your knot meter correct. It's likely the typhoon was set a bit high (7-knots in that light of air is hot.) It's just as likely the knotmeter on the 25d may be set to low. (There is an adjustment knob on the back of the instrument if it's a stock set up.) A good GPS should help you calibrate. Also the paddlewheel may have pick up some sea growth.
2. That sail configuration can give you a lot of weather helm. (The reduced main should help in this area somewhat.) You may need to adjust your rigging so you are sailing smoother, and not fighting the helm. Near 12 knots, a good pull on the cuningham, should help pull that draft back forward.
Hope this helps.

MIKE :
THANKS FOR YOUR RESPONCE.
I REDUCE WEATHER HELM WITH TRAVELER ADJUSTMENT AND MAINSHEET TO NEUTRALIZE WEA. HELM.
MY MAST IS RAKED ABOUT 8 INCHES .STAY TENSION HOLDS THE MAST WITHOUT TAILING OFF.
THE KNOT METER AND GPS ARE IN SYNC.
THE 135 % JIB DRIVES BETTER THAN MY 150 %.
