The chemical engineer at my office suggested Tarn-X to clean the bronze...He says that it is used to clean copper, therefore it will work on bronze as well...Has anyone tried this?...I'm going to try a seacock handle first...Dave

Well Dave don't waste your time with the T-X. I've tried it before. If you really wan't to see that tarnish disappear use Marykate's On/Off hull cleaner. BUT.....
Be careful as it is a multiple acid based cleaner. Very caustic. It will dull any stainless that it comes in contact with and you will have to repolish it to get the gleam back. Keep the area where the cleaner is being used and running off wet at all times. I used it on some bronze pieces that were very, very heavily coated with the typical green corrosion. I used a small chip brush (wood throw away) with the bristles cut way back to only about 1/4" long. I dipped the brush in the On/Off and just flowed it on the bronze, a slight brushing where necessary and then flowed on more, waited just a bit and then rinsed. Magic....clean as the day it was new! To protect it I use Forespar Lanocoate lubricant (impervious to salt). I wipe on a light coating and wipe off all excess. It does not leave the bronze with a greasy feeling like one would assume. It protects a long time, best thing out there. You can order the Lanocoate from West. I've used it on the boat for years for all sorts of stuff and it's the best all purpose lubricant/protector I've ever used. Wear a respirator when using the On/Off, bad fumes (hydrochloric and phosphoric acid). Goggles and gloves also. I used to use ABI's bronze cleaner but the On/Off is superior for the heavy stuff. I think ABI's is safer to use. Test any surfaces the On/Off may come in contact with for compatability, like paint, caulk etc.,.
