Harken Lazyjacks, CD-30
My recently purchased CD-30 "Honalei" has a set of Harken Lazyjacks that were installed about 4 years ago. I really don't care for them and I'm planning on removing them. If anyone is interested, they are for sale for $125.00, including shipping. Leave a way for me to reach you on this bboard.
Re: Harken Lazyjacks, CD-30
I am interested if they will fit a CD 25. Contact me via e-mail as I am always traveling.

Re: Harken Lazyjacks, CD-30
Ron, I don,t know if they will fit. The Westmarine catalog lists 2 sizes, don't know which mine is. Will check it out this weekend and let you know ASAP. What part of the country are you in?
Re: Harken Lazyjacks, CD-30
Ron, I took the lazy jacks off the boat this past weekend. As for fit, the only difference I could see in one size or the other is the length of the pendants that hold the upper blocks. As it turns out, these blocks are attached with eyes in the plastic covered cable that are nicro-pressed in place. I would think that it would be pretty easy to figure the length of the pendants(you would want them shorter than they are now), take the pendants to a rigger and have him make them shorter. If I had left the lazy jacks on Honalei, I would have shortened the pendants myself, I think they were to long.

Mr. Stump;
I have a '30 as well (Cutter rig); I've been toying with the idea of lazyjacks, but haven't looked into them. I'm curious, what specifically don't you care for? Problems with operation? Sail skirting underway? Just don't like the looks?
Depending on your answer to the above, and if Ron decides to pass (he has first option, of course), I might be interested. Any idea what the system costs new?

Re: Harken Lazyjacks, CD-30
Geoff,
I guess my biggest dislike is that with a 2 person crew, the lazy jacks aren't needed. Another concern is that if the lazy jack catches a spreader during a tack, it can tear the spreader off the mast and then you can imagine what happens. Some have told me that you can avoid that problem by loosening the jacks and securing them to the tack area while sailing - more hassel's! And yes, I just don't like the looks of them. A CD-30, cutter rigged, has enough lines to confuse the crew(and the Captain too!). I think a brandy new set of lazy jacks from West Marine (Harken) is about $285.00, if you are interested, my price isn't bad. I haven't heard back from the other skipper yet, so don't know if he wants them or not. Will wait till the end of the week and let you know on this site. Thanks for your interest. Oh, if you sail single handed or with inexperienced crew the jacks would be a help.
