Dock box recommendations

Post by Mario »

We are in the market for a good dock box that we can store our (deflated) dinghy, 3 hp OB, paddles, and other odds and ends. This would keep us from having to haul stuff to and from the marina, which is several hours away.

Can anyone recommend a good dock box at a good price in the 48" range?

Thanks--

Home Depot has steel tool storage boxes that look like they could be used as bomb shelters. Might not be suitable for a salty environment but I think they are well primed/painted. Made by Greenlee I think. A few sizes up to 60" L x 30" W x 40" H. Best I remember they take double locks that are protected from pry-bars.

When I was looking, I found a number in all of the catalogues in that size for about $350 - 450. A company called Spincast in South Bend Indiana had no problem dealing with me direct and were very inexpensive for the size. The contact there is:

Dave Eggleston
Spin-Cast Plastics, Inc.
Work: 219-232-8066
Fax: 219-232-6036

3300 N.Kenmore Street
South Bend, IN 46628

Problem that I encountered was the way the lid fits. Be certain before you buy from them that they assure you that the lid is water tight and will not let in water during a rain - or snow - if you leave it filled all winter. Mine has no lip and so allowed rain to seep in. Really question him on this. Otherwise, the prices are very good.

If water getting in means nothing, and color is not an issue, Home Depot has some Polyethylene garden boxes/sheds that are really large and roomy and travel folded down.

In the catalogues, Defender had the best oprices that I looked at.

Good luck,
