Cleaning Aluminium Spars

What is the best method of cleaning aluminium spars? The mast, boom, and staysail boom on my CD-30 are looking like they need spiffin' up. They're not badly oxidized, just surface dirt and mild oxidation. What do you protect the spars with after you have cleaned them? Thanks for any ideas! Dave

Dave,

I use the same treatment on the spars as I use for the boat's hull. First I wash them down with fiberglass cleaner and then they get compounded and waxed.
