I bought a small electrical panel to add a few more circuits that I need. One day I'll rip out everything and rewire, but for now the extra 3 circuits will suffice. Its a nice Paneltronics unit, with 3 breakers. It measures 5-1/2W x 4-1/2H x 3-1/2 D. Has a nice faceplate with screws but there is no "back" or box with it. The CD27 has its main (only) distribution panel sort of catty cornered into port side of the aft cabin just above the stove. I'd like to mount this subpanel close to the main panel if possible but it can be further away if necessary. I've got some ideas but if any of you CD27ers have mounted a small subpanel I'd appreciated your input.
Thanks,

Mounting small subelectrical panel, CD27

Re: Mounting small subelectrical panel, CD27
Warren,
When I bought my cd26 it already had an aux panel installed. The main is in the same place as yours, but the aux was installed under the overhang on the starboard side. (Don't know if the 27 has an overhang)
This unit was a teak box with a face plate. The wireing was in paralel with the main at the main rotary off/on switch. Hope this helps.

Re: Mounting small subelectrical panel, CD27
I added two breakers into the existing pannel, just above the fuse holders. I had to cut out a bit behide the pannel to allow the breakers to fit, but no big deal at all. I had added a Tri Color with an anchor light so I needed the two additional circuts. There may be room for your small pannel there.

Re: Mounting small subelectrical panel, CD27
My CD27 cane with a subpanel that was installed by a previous owner. The location was a mirror image of the stock panel. A piece of teak-faced plywood was shaped to fit in the corner, about the same size and shape as the stock plywood on the port side. Even without a cut-out in the fiberglass liner, there is enough room behind the panel for the wiring. I replaced the six-circuit fuse-type panel with a breaker panel, but had to use the type with pop-out breakers (like stock panel) to fit the space. The subpanel is fed from the battery switch. I also installed breakers on both main feed wires near the battery box.
