Does anyone know of an equivilent "aftermarket" fuel filter for the engine mounted (never could decide if this is primary or secondary) fuel filter?

Steve,
Do you just want a replacement cartridge? If so Fram makes one. I am not certain of the number. I can check next time I go down to the boat. In addition to that I use a Racor unit in front of the engine mounted unit. The racor unit works great. I keep a 2 micron filter in it. I can change that 2 micron filter without bleeding the engine by shutting the fuel valve off at the tank, changing the filter and topping the racor off from a fuel jug. Once the top is on the Racor unit open the fuel valve and there is no need to bleed the engine. Since I get clean fuel and use the 2 micron filter in the Racor unit I do not need to change the 2 micron engine filter very often. I think the last time I changed it I had 5 years on it before changing. It still did not need changing. In addition I use a vacuum gage on the Racor unit so I know when it is beginning to plug up.
Some would argue that you should keep a 10 micron filter in the Racor and 2 micron in the engine unit so that your filters would last longer. They have never bled a Perkins 4.108.

Re: Perkins 4-108 aftermarket fuel filter
Matt,
Does the Racor itself bleed the air out? or do you still need to bleed the low pressure side after filling the Racor from a jug? What type (Model)of Racor do you have? Being that bleeding the high pressure side of the 4.108 has cost me at least 10 years of life, I'd love to find a simpler solution. I have a Fram filter in front of the engine mounted filter, but every once in a while, when changing the filter, a #%&$*^& air bubble makes it into the high pressure side . . . well you know the rest of that story. Thanks,
Rob
