PHRF rating for typhoon

I bought a typhoon this spring and I am trying to get it rigged for racing. I started filling out the race commitees paperwork and was unsure where to go to get my PHRF rating.

Also how do you go about getting sail numbers? And where do you go to get the physical numbers? Should I have a sail loft do it?

Yor local PHRF committee will give you a number as they vary by area. Check with PHRF-NE there should be a ty in there list (http://www.phrfne.org/baseh.htm) or use this formula, it is pretty close, you will need your sail area and rig dimension.
R' = 610-8.36*(SA/Disp^.333)+0.0000511*(SA^2)-55*(P/(J+E)) -30.8*(LWL^.5)-602*(DR^2/SA)

As far as sail numbers go, see below link, this is a different number than your hull number which alot of boats have on there sails

The PHRF rating you got from the page is unofficial. Normally you have
to present a 'certificate' issued by your local sailing org. If you search the web you can find the rating org for your area. As far as sail numbers are concerned you must apply to USSailing to be assigned a number. As far as PHRF to Portsmouth ratings are concerned that may be a bit more difficult.

Unless you have lifelines, stantions, etc., I don't think you can race a Ty in PHRF. That's why you never see J22's, Ensigns and the like on a PHRF course.

I raced an Ensign PHRF in a GYA sanctioned race, and carried a rating of about 243, I think. The limiting factor was length; no monohulls shorter than 20'. I don't know if that was our local club or GYA, or what.

Technically PHRF is for ORC Cat 3 boats. Ensigns, Typhoons etc. really
don't qualify. However most 'beer can' racing and local clubs will bend the rules.
