Intrepid 40 - help

Post by Andy Petty »

I believe I look after the only Intrepid 40 built (1983) for her original and current owner in UK. She is a fantastic sea boat and I may buy her. Can anyone tell me more about this particular yacht as I understand she was built uniquely to Alan Thomas's specifications for OSTAR racing (she has done 7 or 8). In particular, I am interested in the modified (cutter)rig with additional mast height and bowsprit. I am also interested in her hull and deck construction techniques.

Andy,
I can't help with details about an Intrepid 40 built in 1983, but I
think in the 90's one or more boats were built. My recollection is
from a brief summary in one of the sailing magazines. My assumption is that another manufacturer got the old tooling and built a more modern boat on the original hull. You might try contacting Sail or
Cruising World, and I'll look around to see if I kept a copy. I
have a 9M Intrepid, and would live to see photos or details of the 40.
This site needs more Intrepid details, so please forward to the webmasters.

I too, would be interested in info on Intrepid 40.. I remember admiring this boat at the Newport Sailboat Show in the early to mid 80's. WHEN I contacted Chuck Payne (the designer) a few years ago he left me with the impression that there were at least a few boats built.
