Racor Filter for 1GM

I am interested to find out who has Racor filters for their 1GM, what size you have, if it is the primer pump type, and what filter porosity you use. I am tired of struggling with the Fram metal thing.

I kept the Fram filter but changed the element. Also installed
the Racor WITH pump. Works great with my GM1 Yanmar (CD22D)

Per my surveyor's advise, I installed the Racor #120 with a 10 micron filter. I have been told by multiple sources that the 2 micron filter is just too fine for marine diesel primary filters.
Several thoughts:
1. I installed a shut off valve on the Racor on the "in" side of the filter. This way I did not lose fuel from the hose into the bilge, and also made less work of the bleeding process.
2. I always carried an extra 10 micron filter on board, and this allowed me to rest assured, just in case I got a tank of bad fuel while cruising.
3. I carried about a quart of fresh diesel in a screw top plastic coffee container, and from this, I could refill the new element before I screwed it back on the Racor head, and this also made for less pumping while I was bleeding the system.
4. I replaced all of the fuel hoses while I was installing the Racor.
5. I used plumber's pipe joint compound on all of the threaded connections. This made for a good, tight, clean fit at all of the fittings.

I just aquired a new CD30, and it does still have the Fram filter, but I will be replacing this before long.

Back on TIA MARI, I added the Racor (30 gpm) downstream from the FRAM and kept the FRAM. All worked fine. The diesel mechanic recommended removing the screen from the top of the standpipe in the tank ( it will clog regularly--blocking the primary filter).

FWIW: With both the FRAM & the Racor in place, the small filter on the "fuel lifting pump" NEVER needed replacement ( and air bleeding and bruised knuckles from reaching in behind the waterpump....).

Hi Jim;
When Karma got her 1GM10 repower job back in 1997, the boatyard installed a Racor series 220 fuel/water filter and separator, and used an R24D spin-on 30 micron filter. So far, everything is working well. This size separator has the integral pump and drain bowl, so that you can either drain off water/contaminants, and/or replace the filter, then pump and refill the assembly without bleeding the fuel lines. The specs say it can handle 30 gallons/hr. I don't think I use that much diesel fuel in two years! Any size above this is overkill for this size engine, IMHO. Good Luck!

any reason not to use teflon tape?

can this be used on a ysm8?

I can see no reason why this would not work on your YSM8.
