Does anyone own or ever use a tiller master? I acquired one with my boat and am trying to figure it out.
Thanks

Are you talking about a tiller tamer... A little device thats mounted about 1/2 way out on your tiller? If so. its used to lock your tiller in a certain position. Normally in the middle when the boat is not in use. You can also set it for just enough friction so that the tiller stays in any position when you take your hand off the tiller. I installed mine. I put 2 eye bolts in the back wall of the cockpit as far to port and starboard as possible. A small rope is anchored at one eye bolt, then goes to the tamer and then back to the other eye bolt, and then to a JAM cleat for adjustment. The eye bolts have to be positioned so that the rope will also pull the tiller down a little to it's stop point. How far out on the tiller the tamer is mounted determins the angle the rope enters and exits the tamer. The closer to 90 degrees total (45 each side) the better it will work. Hope this helps.

I have a TillerMaster that used to work fine but now wants to steer in circles. It includes a wheel adapter and a User's Manual. Would you like to acquire some or all of these?

I used to use one...

it was a Davis Tiller Tamer brand, but have dispensed with it since I've been using sheet-to-tiller steering. Instead of a tiller tamer, I just hook an elastic cord to BOTH sides of the tiller.

One note about the Davis brand...a common problem seems to be the plastic guides crack easily (mine was cracked a little when I got it from the previous owner. It still works, though. If you want it, I'll give it to you for the cost of shipping. Others have made similar offers on other bulletin boards, if that makes you feel less guilty about getting a VERY VALUABLE device for FREE... :-). E-mail me if you want it....
