Knot Meter crud

I am having a problem with my paddle wheel and the crud that grows on it. Now that it is warm it needs to be cleaned once a week and that involves anchoring my boat away from the dock ,for safety, and going overboard to clean it. My paddle wheel is fixed and can not be removed from in the boat. Are there any other ways to keep the crud at bay or do I just live with the problem.

It looks like you might have to make the supreme sacrifice and go sailing every day to keep that paddle wheel clean. That is the best way I can think of.

I very carefully painted my with bottom paint at last haulout. This helps a lot but doesnt eleminate the problem completely. For what its worth coating underwater metals with anhydrous lanolin doesnt work for more than a month in S. Florida. On my other boat I tried several different coatings and none work. The only one I didnt try was the clear spray on coating used for powerboat outdrives. It might be worth a try. My paddle wheel is removable but its still a major pain to take out and clean.
