I had a new cutlas bearing in 1991 and the boat yard are advising replacement. I was surprised because I only put 15 hours on the engine going from and returning to the mooring about 30 times a summer. Does this seem reasonable to you ? The yard said it might be that I don't use the engine enough plus during the winter storage the bearing tends to dry out. Comments please.

Re: CD 270 Cutlas Bearing
Clif: Grab prop and move shaft up and down, side to side checking for play if you are not sure,do this on some other boats.A worn cutlass bearing happens when engine is out of alignment, bent or a warped shaft,or dries out over the years.
