I am considering getting the Doyle Stackpack full batten mainsail and cover with the Tidesmarine sailtrack and battcars -a system similar to Harken- which SHOULD facilitate my rising and lowering the main when I am by myself on the boat... does anybody out there already have this system and do you like it? It is not cheap and would appreciate your comments before making the decision. Thanks.

You are right, it is not cheap at all and that is why I'd go with the Harken system, it's very proven and they are an excellent company. Don't know what to tell you about the Doyle Stack Pack. I would certainly contact all the major players in the sail business and compare what they offer. One thing is for certain that you and I both know how hard the Florida enviroment is on marine products and based on that I suggest you strongly consider that factor in the products you choose.
In this situation I would recommend you give a little more clout to folks' opinions recommending products whom are southern boaters over northern or western boaters on expensive equipment that is exposed to the elements.
You might wish to consider roller furling the main as an option for being singlehanded.

Mack Sails in Stuart, FL (Martin County) has been making something like this for a while. They are a local source for you, and familiar with your conditions (both weather and sailing). Suggest you check out their options.

I'm in the process of configuring my newly acquired CD30 for cruising with my lady and want it setup so if anything happens to me she can quickly dispose of sails, start the motor and get control of the boat. To that end I'm installing a furlex for my headsail and a Dutchman for my main with the main halyard run to the cockpit. Release the halyard and your main flakes down onto your boom and if you want then one bungee and she's totally secure without leaving the cockpit. Since my lady lives out of town I also intend to single-hand her out the Cape Fear river and into the Atlantic and back to my slip. The best of the options for my Dutchman in about $550 installed. And I'm having it installed in my current sail. It's something to seriously consider as apposed to the Doyle Stackpack. If you want more information on it I'll be happy to get it for you.
