TYPHOON OUTBOARD SECURITY

Post by DAN MOORE »

DOES ANYONE HAVE A CREATIVE WAY OF LOCKING BOTH THE BRONZE BRACKET AND THE OUTBOARD ON A WEEKENDER? MY BACK IS GETTING WEARY OF MOVING THE OB IN AND OUT OF THE CABIN EVERY TIME I SAIL. ANY EXPERIENCE WITH: A LOCK, CABLE AND EYEBOLT; THRU-BOLTING THE BRACKET AND USING A TRADITIONAL OB LOCK AROUND THE CLAMP BOLTS?
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR RESPONSE

I use a vinyl coated, braided cable with a padlock. It passes through
the motor, outboard bracket, and stern mooring cleat.

Ditto Mike's answer and in addition, I lock the padlock shackle thru the hole that is in the levers that tighten the outboard to the bracket. This puts the lock out of easy reach and gives another bite to the motor.

similar to the others - aircraft cable thru the handles of the outboard screw clamps, around the backstay, thru a hole in the outboard body to a padlock (brass) between the clamp handles.
