Replacement port holes for 28'

Post by Ben Yampolsky »

I'm a new owner of Cape Dory 28', '74. I bought her last July and
trailered her down to her new home on Lake Lanier, GA.
The boat is in a great shape, no signs of blisters and it has a lot of upgrades.
However, the years '74-'75 were the last year Cape Dory's came with plastic port holes.
Question: as the plastic port lights age, where can I find a replacement for them? Who's got them in stock?
Who is the manufacturer? Anyone have a special deal? :)
(2 aftermost are larger in size than the others.)

Ben - I have the same problem. I cannot even find plastic ones to match the larger aft portlights. I'll be watching the responses. Hopefully, someone will have some ideas.

Ben Yampolsky wrote: We used to own a 1975 Cape Dory 28 "Moonshadow". We replaced the 6 smaller plastic portlights with Beckson (I believe they were called Rain Drain type). They were a very close fit to the original. The larger ones aft never had any problems so we left them alone but I believe there are replacments available. We enjoyed the 28 very much and sailed it mostly off the coast of South Florida and Biscayne Bay. Good luck with your new purchase.

Are you looking for the plastic screens? This is our 2nd year as a 1979 cd27 owner. We had plastic screens that have snapped. My husband used chim stock from an industrial machine shop and made his own since we couln't find any. They worked great last summer with no problems and look great. That was our only solution. Also have heard since of Spartan Marine, Robinhood, Maine tel 800-325-3287 may have them. Good luck.

We have a 1976 cd28 with plastic portlights. Last year I replaced all six of the small ones. They are made by a division of Bomar called Pyhi. IF you contact Bomar they should be able to help you out. The number is 603-826-5791.
