I had my garage broken into and have found that my sails are missing.
As well as a new unused 5hp outboard.
So I'm in the market for a full batten main with Dutchman, and a roller reefing genoa.
Can folks in the NY/CT area recommend any sailmakers?
I don't want to be the one dieseling to Block for the Rendezvous!

Missing Sails--> Sailmaker Recommendations?

Re: Missing Sails--> Sailmaker Recommendations?
Bob;
First let me express my sympathies. Although I don't know about the full batten main, I have a new genoa by Doyle on City Island,,,I believe they make a 'STAK PAK' which seems to accomplish the full batten/dutchman system. My spinnaker was made by UK City Island..excellent quality.
Your biggest problem will be delivery time. This time of year
it is 4-6 weeks. Call Colin Linehan at Doyle or Kerry Klingler at City Island UK. Alternatively call Chip Dion at UK in Essex.

Re: Missing Sails--> Sailmaker Recommendations?
Sorry to hear you had your sails stolen at the beginning of the season when it hurts the most to delay your sailing. I had a CD28 last year and I had a main made for me after consulting with several sailmakers. UK quoted me a fair price around $2000. However, I ultimately decided to purchase a main made by Kingston Sail Loft in Kingston, Ontario. I visited the loft and they were repairing a huge sail from the U.S. Constitution that someone drove up from the east coast. They had the best of references from all over this part of the world.
To make a long story short, I had them make a partial/full battened main for about $1400 after the monetary difference between the $Canadian and the $US. It was a fine sail.
Take advantage of the difference in monetary rates since you're so close to Canada. They do excellent work, second to none.
Due to back surgery I had to sell my CD. But I look forward to sailing my small daysailer for a while until I can buy a larger CD.
Check them out by giving them a call at Kingston Sail Loft (613) 531-8909. Mention that you heard it from me and they'll ask you similar questions about your CD as they did mine.

Re: Missing Sails--> Sailmaker Recommendations?
Bob,
I had outstanding luck with the Hood sail loft in Middletown, RI. Joe Cooper is the very knowledgeable guy to talk to. He came to our boat and did exact measurements, not wanting to rely on "published" dimensions:) He was right on the money and the construction of the sail is outstanding. Prices a bit on the high side but worth it IMHO.
Beautiful shape, weather helm reduced by 75% due relocated CE, all that good stuff. Worth a try for sure. http://www.hood-sails.com/
Best of luck!

Re: Missing Sails--> Loaners?
Bob,
Sorry to hear that you will not be able to sail right away. Who would steal sails? Since it could take a month or more to get sails why not post for loaners? Perhaps someone who just bought new sails has their old ones lying around.

Re: Missing Sails--> Loaners?
Indeed! Bob, you can have the use of my Ulmer main if you wish as of right away. It's really not bad, but it is standard batten - not full. Was gone over by sailmaker last year. Let me know. It might help you out of a tight spot for now at least.Matt Cawthorne wrote: Bob,
