I need to stain the teak on my TY weekender.. The boat sat for a couple of years. What color stain was used when the boats were built? Thanks for your help and suggestions.. Ed

The teak was never stained to the best of my knowledge. I also have a Ty Weekender. There should be no reason to stain the teak. Generally, teak is sealed allowing the natural color and grain of the wood to show. If your teak has weathered (graying, dirt, etc.), it should be cleaned, lightly sanded and then sealed. I have used a two-part teak cleaner followed by light sanding and then sealing with several coats of Cetol Marine (satin). I put a coat of Cetol on the teak annually and it has held up well. Cleaning and proper preparation of the teak is very important regardless of what is used to seal and protect the teak. Marine varnish or teak oil are other options for sealing the teak. Many articles have appeared on this board on finishing teak.
