Wire re-enforced Engine Hose

Hello to all

I need to replace the intake hose for my engine and head. The old ones were wire re-enfoced. 1st, do I need the wire re-enforced and 2nd, where do I get it??????

Many people recommend not using wire reinforced hose. The wire is not stainless and thus rusts away and leaves a weak channel where the wire used to be. The idea behind wire reinforced hose is to keep the hose from collapsing from suction as the hose gets older. For example, on the intake side of the water pump on your car. On the out-flow side the pressure from the pump tends to force the hose open. You can use wire reinforced hose anywhere you are dealing with only engine coolant and no salt water. It's a bitch to work with because the wire keeps the hose from expanding to fit over the bibb you're trying to put it on and they are often a real challenge to get on and to clamp tight enough to be leak proof.

In the two applications you mention salt water intake for the engine and salt water intake for the head I wouldn't use wire wound, but that's just me. I've seen others on this BB recommend it. You do want the heavy black hose that's hard to collapse even without wire though and not some light walled hose.It's available at any auto or marine store including West and Boat US with or without wire.

I have found a great hose to replace my old engine water lines. This can be used for all lines because temp. range is -65 deg. to 350 deg.+. It is silicon rubber coolant and heater hose. The 5/8" hose has a working pressure of 150 lb. with a wall thickness of .140" min. to .190" max. McMaster Carr is the vender at mcmaster.com or 404-346-7000. the 5/8" ID part # 5296K31 and is only $24.36 for 3ft or $86.95 for 12ft. I hope this helps.
