Cruising World article
If any of you have any doubts about the seaworthiness of your Cape Dorys, get your hands on the February 1998 issue of Cruising World.
The article "Dumb Bloody Luck" by James Blomsness begins on page 97 and describes the author's delivery adventure aboard ABOVE RUBIES, his newly purchased Cape Dory 36, from San Diego, California to Port Lions, Alaska in early March Pacific gales.

Also of note is an article on p. 56 of the January 1998 issue of SAILING regarding a "retrofit" of the CD 25.Catherine Monaghan wrote: If any of you have any doubts about the seaworthiness of your Cape Dorys, get your hands on the February 1998 issue of Cruising World.

Also check out the December 97 issue of "Sailing"( I think its either that or Nov) for an article on the new Octavia 25 which to me looks exactly like the CD 25. I thought it was a CD 25 until I read the article.Brett I. As a new CD36 owner, it certainly has increased our confidence in our choice of boatCatherine Monaghan wrote: If any of you have any doubts about the seaworthiness of your Cape Dorys, get your hands on the February 1998 issue of Cruising World.

Octavia Marine bought the molds for the CD25D and the CD26 when Cape Dory closed its doors. For more info you can check out their website at:
http://www.boatshow.com/OctaviaMarine.html
And don't forget that Robinhood Marine Center is now building the CD36, CD40 and CD45. Of course they are now called the Robinhood 36, 40 and 45. And you can check out their website at:
http://www.robinhoodyachts.com/
And for the powerboaters out there, Nauset Marine is building the Nauset 33 which uses the old Cape Dory mold. Their website is:

Re: Cruising World article
I know that our CD 36 "Parfait" has saved our necks several times. That's why we really hate to give her up. However, the time comes, if you're lucky, when you have lived long enough that you can't accommodate the "bounding" part of the bounding main as well. Parfait is for sale, and we're of two minds as to how soon we want that to happen. Right now, we're getting ready for our Spring cruise. Somebody is going to get a super boat when they buy her.Warren Stringer wrote:As a new CD36 owner, it certainly has increased our confidence in our choice of boatCatherine Monaghan wrote: If any of you have any doubts about the seaworthiness of your Cape Dorys, get your hands on the February 1998 issue of Cruising World.

Re: Cruising World article
Cape Dory's are getting popular with the magazine folks. Get a copy of the March 1998 issue of "Blue Water Sailing". There is an extensive article on the CD36 subtitled "One Tough, Traditional Passagemaker". The article traces the design changes of the boat since it's introduction in 1979 and compares it with the Robinhood 36. The result of an owner survey is provided with rankings on performance, passagemaking qualities, creature comforts, etc. The only complaint about the boat from owners is the lack of dinghy storage. As the owner of a CD30 primarily used for coastal cruising, I can relate to that complaint.
Re: Cruising World article
Hello, I realize this forum is older but thought I would inquire about this article that is mentioned. I’m curious if anyone has the 1998 February Cruising World issue that is mentioned in this feed.
I am contemplating purchasing and researching the Cape Dory 36 design extensively. Would love to find this article but have not been able to find the magazine secondhand or electronically on the internet. If anyone knows where I might purchase or download the magazine, or simpy the article, please let me know if you will. Would love to read this story that has boasted so many Cape Dory owners’ confidence!
Thanks in advance for any info.
