Deviation Diagram

Post by tartansailor »

Greetings All,
Just out of curiosity, has anyone made a deviation diagram for their boat?
And if so, how many degrees of spacing to simplify interpolation?

My diagram is built around 90° increments.

Thanks John
It's always so windy here in coastal DE that it's hard to get a steady reading
without a 3 anchor mooring.

I calculated the deviation on the move using a combination of easily identifiable landmarks as range markers aligned with the current and the rest with GPS set to true north. It's within a couple degrees which is better than anything I can steer.

I applaud your determination to calculate it. So many people are totally reliant on a chart plotter. So many skills are lost or forgotten....
