Zinc for Cape Dory 25D that has previously been in fresh water

Post by egilchri »

I purchased a Cape Dory 25D a couple of months ago, and will be splashing it in the Spring, in salt water, possibly for the first time. Should I put a zinc on the propeller shaft? Not a ton of room there

Yes. Absolutely must put a zinc on that shaft. Looks like enough room from the photo. There are lots of different styles. Looks like the style I use might fit.

You want to clean that shaft up before you install the zinc. I use 1200 wet dry sand paper then install the zinc. Make sure you apply Tef-Gel or other anti seize coating to the threads of the bolts that tighten the zinc.
