CD 30C cracked galley counter replacement
Has anyone repaired or replaced the countertop just below the companionway? I have a 6" crack just starboard of the ladder, probably from being stepped on. ANy lessons lerned would be appreciated. I am interested in the material used, whether you modified the construction and if it made it stronger.

It would be helpful to post some photos of your counter and the crack so we can better understand the problem and recommend options.

Re: CD 30C cracked galley counter replacement
Hi Tod
I can't help you on that. I don't have any Formica in my boat. I think that's Formica? I'm sure a couple folks will chime in at some point. These boats are getting old and it's common to see some adhesives start to fail over time especially given the extreme temps and high humidity they are often exposed too.
Do you want to restore so it looks like original new or are you just wanting to address the crack?

My plan is to disassemble the entire counter from side to side, strengthen the support in that spot around where you step down through the companionway and then lay a new countertop back over it all.

Hi Tod,
Sounds like a good plan. When you take out the old counter would it be possible to get a piece of that from you? I have a 85 CD30 and need to fill in a hole near the sink and would like to match as close as possible the material. Would be glad to paypal you the shipping cost (simple USPS small box) for a 4” x 6” piece (approx size, rough edges won’t matter)
Thanks
