Mast head sheve lubrication

Post by Walter Hobbs »

Greetings,

I have the mast un stepped from my 27,just for general inspection and maintenance . I have the sheeves removed from the mast head for cleaning. I think that hey are original from 1977 and have never been a problem. They are a little narrow for the 3/8 line that I use. I think that original halyards were wire/line combos. There is no room for the line to jump from the sheeve so that is OK. my question is, what should I lube them with that is the longest lasting, since they don't get serviced for years. Or should I leave them dry?

Lubes available:
Sail Kote
Pb blaster
WD 40
Sewing machine oil

I think the dry lube of Sail Kote may be the best.

Ideas, Comments?

Thanks.

For the last few years I’ve been using Super Lube but in the past I used Lewmar winch grease. Any grease would be better than no grease. Even wheel bearing grease would do the job so use what you have on hand would be my advice.

Thanks Jim,

I have the Harken winch grease. I guess that will work,
