CAPE DORY 40

Post by Gary M. Zavada »

I AM LOOKING FOR A CAPE DORY 40. IT MUST BE IN GOOD CONDITON, WITH NO BOTTOM BLISTERS, AND NO CRACKING OR CRAZING ON THE TOP DECKS.The engine must be clean. I prefer tp purchase directly from the owner, to avoid agent fees. Please send any information or pictures and location to my E-Mail address.

Dude, the boat doesn't exist: they all have cracks in the decks, and most will have some blisters.

..., but they are great boats anyway as they need less structural maintenance than most boats.

There's very cherry CD40 ketch in Marion,MA, asking 155K. No cracks evident; stored inside every winter. There were only 12 CD40s made, so good luck finding one not in the hands of a broker. This one was listed by Dave Perry of Robinhood.

Chuck is right, I do have a nice one for sale. The seller pays the broker commission, and I always remind them that it is a "professional fee", not added value to the boat! I'd be glad to talk with you about her.

It so happens that our one experience with a broker was with Dave Perry who answered your quest. We purchased a boat from him last December. For various reasons the transaction was complicated. We ultimately were very glad Dave Perry was involved in the deal. We found him to be helpful, professional and honest. BTW:We found out that he used to be the sales manager for Cape Dory during their "glory days" and is quite knowledgeable on all things Cape Dory.

John,
The base price of the Robinhood 36 is $205,000 and on the 40 the base is $325,500. Well equipped with electronics, some custom appointments, she is going to be about $375,000. And we love to take Cape Dorys in trade!
Dave
