Barient 8P winch
Hi Friends, I have a 1975 Typhoon Weekender, restored to Bristol shape. My winches are Barient 8P. The starboard winch has "frozen" up. I took it apart; cleaned and lubed it. However, it still will barely turn. It seems that the plastic base has "swollen' and prevents the drum from rotating. The port winch is fine. Have any of you seen or heard of this? Thank you. I guess the problem you have is not unique - there's a reference below to sanding the plastic in order to free up
the winch- what is actually causing the swelling is kind of a mystery.

Re: Barient 8P winch
Thank you so much! I had searched our board and Google but did not see anything about the base swelling. Just as info. for others: The base on the Barient 8P looks like Delrin to me. It is interesting that Sweet Pea is a 1975 Typhoon. The port and starboard winches have been treated to the same love; or lack thereof. Only the starboard one was sticking. I did as recommended, sanded it down until the drum fit easily. Re-cleaned and lubed. Working like a charm. Doug Pearce
