I’m new to the Cape Dory owners group. I am located in Venice, FL. I am looking to purchase a Cape Dory 25D which has been restored and/or is in great condition. I will need to get it to Venice somehow. May need a compatible trailer.

Looks like a upgrade project . These are hard to find and are usually overpriced if in very good condition. Looks like a road trip for you! I have been on the fence for several years but ultimately the ability to trailer and step the mast with 2 people, no diesel and single-handed ability keeps me from getting one. I still always have to look!! Brian

Photos of the CD 25D at Apollo Beach does make it look like a “project boat”.

I’m a senior and a project boat is too ambitious. I am willing to pay more for a restored boat.

We haven't heard from Sea Hunt Video in awhile, but he would be a great source, he hunted almost all of the East and Gulf coasts for his 25D. I bet he knows of several that might be available, and several that would be passed by.

I continue to look for a Cape Dory 25D which has already been restored or is in great condition. There are few 25D’s for sale in any condition and my age limits my zest for a “project boat”. I may need to expand the geographical search area. Earlier, I noted that I am located in Venice, FL.
Do any members have recent experience with shipping a full keel boat a distance of 1,000 to 1,500 miles? If so, I would be interested in knowing the approximate cost.

I have noted on POP Yachts that the 1982 Cape Dory 25D offered for sale at Apollo Beach, FL now has a reduced price of $8750. Should there be a skilled boat restorer out there maybe we could work out an arrangement. As previously noted, as a “senior citizen”, taking on a restoration is too ambitious.

I live on the Chesapeake. I shipped a 1983 CD25D to Solomons MD from Clinton CT and it set me back $4800. Would have preferred to sail it down but it was late October and I am 72. Hope this helps. Good luck. This my second 25D and I love them!
