9.9 Yamaha 4 stroke-Fresh water flush

Post by Ken Merson »

Have a 9.9 four stroke Yamaha in the well of my 25 foot Cape Dory. Want to figure out a way to flush the engine with fresh water after each use.

Anyone have a tried and true method of acommplishing this?

Thanks a million!

Yamaha engine dealers sell a "garden hose" adaptor that is designed to screw into the fresh water flush port on your engine. I use one of these, plus a short length of garden hose to bring the total length of the hose assembly up into the engine locker. I leave it attached all the time, secured with a couple of nylon tie-straps. With this in place you can hook up a dock hose and pump fresh water directly into the flush port without pulling the engine. Only down side might be a small drag penalty having the flush hose ride along with the engine. But come to think of it, I'm in no hurry anyway!

Good Luck

Ken,

I did a modification in 1987 for my Yamaha 9.9. Take a look at the web page listed below and go to the "Engine Well" link at the bottom of that page. You will see it there...Dana
