Re: dimensions of 3 blade prop

Post by Catherine Monaghan »

Mike,

We cannot check the stamp on the prop since it is covered in antifouling but my husband recorded the dimensions as best he could.

3-blades
diameter: 13"
pitch: 12" (best guesstimate)
blade area: each blade approximately 19 sq. in. (it's greater than 19 sq. in.)
total blade area: approximately 60 sq. in.

CD32 cruises at about 6.3 knots at 2200 RPMs with Westerbeke 21A. She will back under power but propwalk will send the stern to port as with most boats.

There was an excellent article (2-parter) in the February and March issues of SAIL which describes how to select the correct size prop. It's very technical but well worth reading.

Realization, our CD32, also has a Westerbeke 21A engine. We have a 3-blade prop. She cruises easily at over 6 knots under power at 2200 rpm. We're not in the water yet. If I can remember, I'll attempt to measure the prop and let you know what size it is.

I have Macht Nichts CD 30 MK II with a Weterbeke 21a, and at 2200 rpm we cruise at 5 kts. What can I expect from a 3 blade prop ? What are the pro's and con's. Is there a specific prop that is better than others?

Thanks in advance for the help!!!!!
