replacing wooden bracket on outboard mount

Post by radsailor »

I need to replace the wooden bracket on my Typhoon outboard mount.
Anyone know the type, length and pitch of the original screws ?
If not, can I drill holes in the vertical struts of the mount for bolts ?

Why would you drill new holes? Just use existing holes. Use any stainless bolt that fits and Dremel off the excess length. Not sure if I’m missing something…

I was concerned that my new wooden support was full thickness top to bottom rather than tapered as original so would
need longer screws in lower holes.
Also was thinking of mounting the wood a little lower on the bracket to better immerse the prop.

I wouldn’t drill more holes as that weakens the metal support. You may need to do the bologna sandwich method that the PO did on my mount.
