I made the first overnight trip of the season this week.
!8 nautical miles over to Huntington Bay Long Island.
A strong southwest wind from 18-25 knots and 3-foot seas greeted me on Thursday morning and I used just the mainsail for the crossing from Southport CT to Eaton's Neck area of Long Island NY. This worked well event though I was close-hauled. The wind calmed to 15-18 so I deployed the 135 genoa partially furled and sailed on. About 5 hours sailing later I was tied up on a mooring at Norhtport, NY.
The trip home on Friday was through calm seas and a West wind at about 10 knots most of the day.
A great start to the season.
